I enjoy Wednesdays because it is Blockheads day. Today is Block #19 of 48 and it is called Night Flight by designer Lynn Hagmeier of Kansas Troubles Quilters. It is another of my favorites. I like doing flying geese and I can see improvements each time. I still have an issue with my corners sometimes but I will eventually get them.
Picture #2 is the blocks I have completed so far. I think I did the alternative block in addition to the main block once as I have 20 blocks.
All blocks and instructions to make each can be found at the Moda Fabrics website. I like seeing all the different blocks that is produced from the one pattern.

I really enjoy sampler quilts and your is looking great. I did not know that Mode was having a block party, so thank you for the link. Although I am really behind, I might try to make some of the blocks myself. Great post! Happing sewing~

Thanks Bella. Most of the blocks are pretty easy so you can catch up quickly. Thanks for following my posts.

These fall colors are going to be a stunning quilt. I really like the touch of light blue, like a gentle surprise.😄

Thanks Kathy. I am hoping they will flow together when all are done.

looking great so far! I recently started a quilt along. Today is block 3, and I haven’t even looked at it yet! yikes!

Thanks Tonya. Which quilt along are you doing? I am also doing Grandma’s Kitchen with Pat Sloane. I just finished her block as I didn’t get it until late.

Grandmas kitchen as well! I only found out about it Friday so I did the first two blocks on Sunday. I like it bc it’s forcing me to try new things. I don’t like it bc it’s taking my out of my comfort zone and I don’t like not having full control of what the end piece will look like 😂

That’s exactly my concerns but we will work through it. These are the only QAL that I have participated in and so far it is fun. I figure if I really mess up a block I will throw it away and never mention it again. 🙂

This is my first one. I’ll let you know my feelings when it’s over 😜

Hi Peggy,
I’m a recent fan of flying geese. They used to intimidate me, and I was not very good at making the block. Now, my cutting and sewing have improved that I can notice the difference. When the pieces fit together the way they are meant to, it’s a good thing!! Congrats to your improvement. ~smile~ Roseanne

Thanks Roseanne. I really like sewing them the ‘magic 8’ way so I get 8 at a time and they are more accurate, but when doing different colors or sizes that doesn’t work.

I have enjoyed seeing the individual blocks as you complete them but it is really cool to see the whole sampler coming along – looks great!

Thanks Tierney. Since I went with the 12″ blocks instead of 6″ it is almost big enough for a quilt. 🙂

blocks are looking gorgeous, all together, on your design wall.

Thank you Claire. They are on my design ‘floor’. 🙂

ah, you don’t have a design wall . . . neither do I lol.

I so wish I had room for one. That floor keeps getting lower and harder to get up when I get down. 🙂

I’ve tried lots of methods for flying geese. I purchased the Jodi Barrows “system” called Square in a Square (ruler/book/dvd) last year and when I was working on my Bonnie Hunter Talkin’ Turkey there were hundreds of FG to make. Using Jodi’s ruler/system, I have had the best success with making them in quality and quantity!

Thanks for the tip Grandma. I usually use the ‘magic 8 method’ but I definitely need more practice.
