Pat Sloan’s Grandma’s Kitchen block of the week #14 is called Salt & Pepper. No, I am not an overachiever. I just cannot make up my mind with color choices so I decided to make three blocks with different colors and because I like this block. 🙂
Our story this week is about salt and pepper shakers. My Mammaw always seasoned food while it was cooking and I cannot remember having shakers on the table at meal time. My aunt had a set of wooden shakers in the shape of chubby chefs. On one was painted the name ‘Salty’ and the other one, you guessed it, was ‘Peppy’. I thought these were the neatest things ever. They were kept on a little shelf over the stove and were NEVER used. The only time they were touched was for cleaning.
Thanks for visiting. Come back anytime. 🙂
My favorites are the 2nd and 3rd blocks.

Hi Peggy! You’re not an overachiever?! Really. Okay. So which block do you like or are you going to wait and audition them when you’re putting the quilt together? I would cast a vote . . . but don’t want to influence you. ~smile~ Roseanne

Definitely wait until you are putting it together to choose, they are all wonderful, though I may be leaning toward the yellow today. Maybe you should make another one and use them in the corners….😄

Great idea. Then it would seem more like a plan instead of an after thought. Thanks.

My mom collected salt and pepper shakers, she had some really interesting ones. I inherited them, but my sister is keeping them for me at her home for the moment.

I love all 3!! When the “setting” finally comes out, you will know which one works best! The extra blocks can go as part of your backing. (I’m getting behind on mine …..)

Good idea for the backing. Don’t worry about getting behind, you’ll catch up. I get behind during Hurricane Irma but it is just as easy catching up on three as making one every week.

I love each block you made! I enjoyed reading about your Salt&Pepper shaker memories. I have a Mr. & Mrs. Piggy set that is in out in the kitchen for viewing only 😊

Thanks Abbie. At my house I have the Publix Thanksgiving salt and pepper set that is shaped like pilgrims. I use them every Thanksgiving.
