Regatta Project Completed – and I’m Still Kicking, Just Not Too High

Believe it or not, this was an easy quilt and normally would be a fast project to complete in a weekend. I have stretched it out for weeks due to one thing after another but it is now finished. You would think I was working for the government! I love the fleece lining and with the simple wavy line quilting it is just enough to keep it soft and snuggly for the couch and a good book….oh yes, that reminds me. I knew I had been reading way too many mysteries when I read my grocery list and I had ‘DB’ listed. I cannot imagine what in the world ‘DB’ stood for other than ‘dead body’…..see what I mean…too many mystery books. I know I wasn’t supposed to pick up a dead body at the grocery. Not even Walmart has that on the clearance shelf. 🙂     (Still do not know what ‘db’ means. Guess I will find out when I go to the pantry to get it and find out I have none.)

A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT TOOK TIME TO MESSAGE AND CALL TO CHECK ON ME.

I am not 100% well yet, but I am happy to be here. I am slowly getting back into my sweatshop to sew a little each day and with Sami’s help we will start producing again. I know the fabric industry has noticed my absence and I am sure their stocks have gone down. LOL

Author:

I am a retired grandmother living in hot and sunny Florida. I spend most of my days doing what I love: sewing and quilting. I have a spoiled rotten Boston Terrier named Sami who keeps me busy mostly by cleaning up after her and refilling holes in the yard that she insists on digging and burying her toys. Of course then she digs them up and brings them into the house resulting in...you guessed it...more cleaning. I will be posting pictures of Sami, quilts, flowers, and other things as they come along. Glad to have you join me.

  1. I am clueless on the DB, but that would make a great premise for a mystery novel — while our protagonist is trying to figure out the writing on her grocery list, she stumbles across a dead body and has to solve the mystery! Maybe you should start writing! 🙂

  2. Glad you are on the mend, and I was wondering about you the other day as I had not seen any posts in a while. That was very funny about the “DB” – you will have to tell us when you figure out what you were supposed to get at the grocery store! 🙂

  3. Hi Peggy,
YAYAYAYAYAY! I am so thrilled to see a post from you, I could have get in it quick enough to read it. Really nice job on the Regatta finish. I can only imagine how nice it feels with fleece on the back. Not that you’ll be using it any time soon since it has to be warming up very soon. I hope you are on the mend, my friend. I have been very worried about you. I cannot imagine what DB stand for – you’ll have to let us know if you ever find out what you meant! {{Hugs}} I hope Sami is doing well! ~smile~ Roseanne

    1. Thank you Roseanne. Sparkle on With Abbie solve the mystery!! She came up with DOG BISCUITS….I think I put that there in place of Pup-Peroni as Sami is almost out and that would be a disaster! As I blame everything on my meds I am sure I was in a medication haze……yeah sure. 🙂 thank you for thinking about us.

  4. Your Regatta looks fabulous!
I’m intrigued with the use of fleece as a backing that doubles as a batting of sorts. First off, how does it wash up after use? Any shrinkage discrepancies? And then, how does the cotton-fleece combo quilt? It sounds like you did the machine walking foot deco-stitch (wavy line) – did the two different types of fabric give you trouble under the needle?
Great solution to the need for a quilt in warmer climates such as FL.
I’m sorry to hear you were ill – this flu season has been brutal.
    😦
    Take care

    1. Thank you Laura. I have used the fleece as backing on several quilts, mostly for quilts I am gifting for friend/relatives for cooler areas. I usually prewash but most fleece is not 100% cotton and it doesn’t shrink that much. I try to get the anti-pill kind so it stays pretty. I quilt it on my long arm and it quilts beautifully. If the quilt is to stay in FL like the Regatta is (it is mine) I either add a very thin batting or no batting at all. I get the fleece at Joann’s when they have the 60% off sale but I get the better quality, anti-pill. The fleece is especially nice for baby quilt backings and I have never had a problem after washing them. They only get softer. I do pre-wash the fleece before sewing if I have any doubts, but I do that with any fabrics, especially flannel. Let me know if you have any more questions. I will be glad to try to help. 🙂

    1. Thank you Abbie. I think you could be right!!! It could be dog biscuits. Even though she has a box of biscuits I could have meant to put her favorite night time treat, Pup-Peroni, and in my medicine haze put down DB instead. You have solved the mystery and made Sami a happy girl. 🙂
