A big thank you to everyone that sent messages, prayers, and good will to Sami and I during Hurricane Irma.
Sami and I evacuated to my son and daughter-in-law’s house south of Atlanta, GA. They were the most gracious hosts and did everything they could for us to relieve the stress. I can never thank them enough for everything they do for us.
After spending four days of prepping our house to ready it for Irma, Sami and I, already exhausted, loaded the car to head for Georgia. The trip that usually takes six hours for me (five hours for anyone else) took somewhere around 11-12 hours with the traffic.
Unfortunately, the storm kept going north and impacted everyone in its path farther north than anyone expected. Lots of people in the Georgia area where we stayed were also without power and experienced high winds and lots of rain. My family only lost tree limbs and a few other minor things.
Sami and I came home not knowing what to expect as the national news programs only reported on the areas that had the most devastation. The trip home was almost as long as going but we had relief knowing the storm was over. Every rest area we stopped had no power and the bathrooms were closed. That wasn’t a problem for Sami but it sure was for me.
I am happy to say, our house received very minimal damage. We lost a few trees, parts of the fence will never be the same, and lots of clean up is needed. BUT, we are so lucky to have been spared and we now have electricity. So many people lost everything. My best friend and his wife lost their house they have lived in for over 35 years and they only live eight miles from me, on the beachside.
I know without all the prayers that were sent our way it would have been a completely different story and I am very grateful. We had a wonderful place to go for protection and we had a house to come home to. Thank you God. Please continue your prayers for everyone affected by this storm. So many people still do not have power here and it is extremely hot, in the 90s. The linemen are working very long days in this heat trying their best to get the electricity back on for everyone.
I have not even walked into my sweat shop and I will probably not until I get the clean up and repairs completed. That area is my happy place and I cannot even think about it right now. I really appreciate all the comments sent our way and I will start my regular posts as soon as possible.
Thank you.
This is such good news. Prayers will continue from people everywhere for all of those affected in these crazy storms!

Wonderful news, Peggy. I’m so glad you and your family kept safe and have come through this relatively unscathed, though it sounds to have been a terrible ordeal. Good luck with cleaning up and getting back to ‘normal’. I will keep in you my thoughts and also, of course, all those who have been less fortunate 🙂

Thank you Janine. I fuss and complain anytime something upsets my routine but my heart is rejoicing that we made it through and filled with sorrow for the ones that lost so much. With prayers we will survive.

I’m located in Cumming, Georgia north east of Atlanta. The damage here at our place wasn’t too bed, but devastating for a lot of people around us. I am glad that you guys were able to get out and be somewhere safer than Florida. I’m still praying daily for everyone affected by the recent storms and quakes. It had truly been a wake up call for us and many of our loved ones. I’m truly blessed it wasn’t worse even though it was worse than they thought it would be here.
We only lost power for 26 hours, so we were lucky.
Glad to hear you guys are okay though.

Thank you Zimm. We were in McDonough and the weather was much cooler than normal. 26 hours without electric is a LONG time. The thoughts and prayers helped a lot of people.

I truly believe that thoughts and prayers give comfort to many. I wish I had the money to donate to all the relief efforts. I’d be donating a lot if i could.

I agree Zimm. It would be nice to be able to afford to help people in need, but sometimes we just cannot. Prayers are always welcome.

We will continue praying for strength and stamina, and good decision making for everyone affected. These things are so overwhelming. I remember the blizzard we had a few years ago…we were fine, but so much devastation around us. It makes your heart hurt.

It is amazing at how fast people can work to get things back after the storms. I remember blizzards too. Our power was usually off for 2 weeks at the suggestion of snow. 🙂

I have been thinking about you and your daughter who had to stay behind during the storm. I am glad to know you came through it safely and the residence only incurred minimal damage. The news stories are rather unsettling to look at. Hoping your clean up is not too bad.

Thank you so much. We were very lucky. Cleanup is the pits, but at least we have something left to clean up. I am leaving the hurricane shutters on the upstairs windows until after the threat of Hurricane Maria has passed.

I am catching up on posts and thanks for sharing your experience of evacuating it puts things in perspective for those of us who have not had that experience. I am glad your home is okay overall and I am so sorry about your friend’s home!

Thank you Tierney. I am rethinking my decision to remain in FL, as I’m sure a lot of the residents are.

That is rough as it seems like paradise to live there – who would have thought it would be this bad!

I know. I have been here for 36 years and it seems the hurricanes or wild fires are every year now.
