Merry Christmas Everyone-Sami and I Both Fooled Santa This Year

As you can tell from the look on Sami’s face, she knows she pulled one over on Santa this year with all the presents she received. In addition to her wonderful subscription to the monthly Bark Box, she got her all time favorite night-time snack, Pup-Peroni and several chew-aggressive toys. Mom even promised not to make her wear any of the cute clothes that she hates.

Isn’t this the cutest face? No, is isn’t Sami’s but it is on a t-shirt my son and DIL  got for Sami to give to me, along with jammie bottoms for Christmas. I just love it and it looks just like you know who. Along with my gift certificates from both of my kids I think I fooled Santa too. 🙂

Winter Post Cards Quilt

I think this is my last Christmas item I will make for this year. The inspiration for this quilt came from the cute fabric called Winter Reindeer by Sue Schlabach for David Textiles. It was just too pretty to cut into little pieces so I cut 8″ strips and bordered them in Poppy Red Waverly fabric. I had the gray and white dotted fabric in my stash, along with the solid white for the 16 patch blocks.

This lap quilt measures 49″x65″ before quilting. I have gray and white flannel for the backing.

Sami decided it was about time to have her picture posted. She matches the quilt. 🙂

Based on a pattern called Piece A Tree, Spread Some Joy from My Girlfriend’s Quilt Shoppe  I completed four cute little Christmas tree cushions. It is really hard to tell from the pictures (I really do need to either get a good camera or learn how to take pictures) but the background fabric around the tree is a red and tan checked and the border is black with white mini dots. This was a quick and easy project and as you can tell the cushion covers were made like a mini quilt and the backing, which opens to allow for the pillow insert to be added, is attached as the binding is sewn. If you roll over the pictures the captions pop up.

As always I took a few liberties with the pattern and changed a couple of things: I used three 2 1/2″ strips for the trees instead of four 2″ strips as I had the three strips already sewn together left over from a previous project. I also made the cushions a little bigger: 10″x12″ as opposed to the 5 1/2″x8 1/2″ the pattern stated.

If someone was not lazy like me it would be cute to have different holiday covers to change out as they came along…..Another time, another life.

Now if I can just get Sami to leave them alone and not claim them as hers, they just might survive the holidays.

Holiday Township

I enjoy making items that can be used in more than one way. This little piece was made from a quilted pillow pattern called Township from Moda. I knew a couch pillow at my house would mean Sami would be in the dog house for sure. She would immediately claim it as her own and the fights would begin.

I loved the pattern and decided it would be more useful at our house as a small table runner. I also added a hanging sleeve to the back so it could be used as a wall hanging. One of these days it may become a pillow.

I used a charm pack called Basically Holiday from Benartex.  It is hand quilted around the houses and blocks and measures 18″x29″.

Moda Bake Shop is a wonderful place to find free patterns.

Merry Christmas table runner

Christmas Table Runner – pattern improvised from a picture in Keepsake Quilting catalog

I made this table runner for my sweet daughter-in-law for her dining room table. The backing is pine cones in shades of browns and golds so she can use it both for Fall and Christmas.

While I was on a roll I decided to make  placemats to go along with the Christmas table runner. The backing is the same pine cone fabric that is on the runner. I found the fabric at Hobby Lobby and it is perfect for autumn sewing projects.

I Wish You A Merry QAL, Blocks 3 and 4

Today the I Wish You A Merry QAL group received instructions for blocks 3 and 4. Block 3 is a cute Santa themed block from Laura Piland of  Slice of Pi Quilts. I love this block. It was quick and easy and has 100% of the cuteness requirement.

Block 4 is an applique block called Christmas Memories by Jennifer Fulton of The Inquiring Quilter. The thing I like most about this block, in addition to the above mentioned cuteness factor, is the nice large pieces. With Jennifer’s detailed instructions it was easy to put together. I used black with white dots ribbon for the ornament hangers that (I think) sets it off. The very busy background I picked out was probably not the best choice but I still like it.

Four Seasons Wall Hanging 3 of 4 – Winter

Here is number three of my Four Seasons wall hangings. This wall hanging was based on a pattern called Autumn Retreat designed by eQuilter and Jude Spero of Little Louise Designs.

I Wish You A Merry Quilt Along – Block 2

Block #2 of the I Wish You A Merry Quilt Along, 2017 is from April Adams of Janda Bend Quilts. I used the Tri Recs Triangle Ruler for the first time since purchasing it over a year ago. After being intimidated by these little pieces of plastic for so long I decided to make an attempt. I am happy to say it was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Only two little 3 1/2″ blocks were sacrificed before I figured it out. It may not be perfect but I did not take the tops of any of my trees.

I am looking forward to seeing the other blocks the group has completed.

Ho Ho Ho Wall Hanging

This wall hanging is based on a pattern called Jolly Greeting Wall Hanging designed by Sandy at  Up Stairs Hobby Room. It ended up being 17″ x 52″ after quilting.  The pattern called for half square triangles (HST) borders all around but I replaced those with 2 1/2″ white snowflake fabric strips and I replaced the center of the star with a fussy cut Santa face. The binding is red and white stripe fabric.

It was a very easy project and could be pieced in an afternoon. I think I will add the HST borders on the next one. They will add more color and frame the piece better.
